Fresno chili peppers were first cultivated in 1952 by named after the city Fresno, California. Red Fresno peppers look like jalapeno peppers however the Fresno pepper has a fruitier, smokier taste and they are a bit spicier. In fact, they measure from 2,500 – 10,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Choose peppers that are bright and firm with a tight, medium to thick skin. Avoid shriveled peppers and peppers with soft spots.
